New NSeries in the making?

This is truly for us to guess, as we have no clue whatsoever what the new device compromises of, but according to Cybette at her Jaiku, she received a prototype, and she is so excited about it, that she actually told (or teased) us.
If you guys didn't know, Cybette, or Carol Chen is the Senior Integration Engineer at Nokia, so the last thing this should be is a fake rumour. Carol wrote that "it's NXX on the spec sheet in front of me and N00 on the proto" which tells us that it cannot be a N96, but a new unreleased model.

Most of us wondered if it was a Touch UI device, which wasn't fully answered, but the tip makes me believe that it is the new generation of S60 phones. "as for touch, it's a touchy subject, so i will not touch it," wrote Carol.

What we can really do is only speculate...

Nokia N82 Black version - it's official (again)

I guess we can say this is "re-officialised", the N82 Black version was spotted long ago in some websites, and it was confirmed by Nokia when some bloggers caught it in Nokia's website.

Now, Nokia officially releases it, and dedicated a press release to it. I believe they are trying to give it a second life, calling again for attention, filling the N96 waiting gap.
Nothing new on the specifications side, the N82 continues the same old story, with an improved software and looks. When I say software, I'm guessing that geotagging features will be built-in, and it will be friendlier to the Ovi platform. I might be wrong here, this is just my opinions.

What will definitely give fame to this N82 will be the Urbanista Diaries and Stavros, master of Position Art, and clear winner at Nokia for the funniest man award.

"The Nokia N82 is made for storytelling," says Juha Kokkonen, Director for Nokia Nseries devices. "As one of Nokia's leading-edge connected camera, the Nokia N82 in black captures people's journeys and discoveries. With built-in A-GPS it even helps people to find new places by pairing 'contextual' information with a wide array of connectivity features such as Wi-Fi and HSDPA. We make it easy for consumers to quickly share those moments as they happen."

FM transmitters are here to stay

When the Nokia N78 was released, many were confused, and some still are confused on the purpose of a FM transmitter.

Broadcasting audio output over FM radio can be useful, especially in a car, and it can be a replacement of the Bluetooth headset or car kit.

Let's try with a Nokia N95, which doesn't have a FM transmitter built-in, but you can get one from any shop, at a cheap price.

You are going to hate me for that horrible flash that ruins the pictures, but I only get time at night to do write these articles, and at night....well there's no sunshine.

N82 in Black makes its (secret) debut

Not much fuss has been created by Nokia about this black diamond. I feel like we call every black smartphone a black diamond, but anyway...

The black N82 was leaked some time ago on some other Nokia official website, and I believe you will be able to get it as soon as next month. My source implied 2nd of April, but I can't believe it will be that late. Unfortunately I haven't found any black original housing for the N82 from my suppliers, and there is no tip or information on its release.

The pictures were provided by Maevro from Howard Forums, and according to him, there will be more of these soon.

N82 with another face: Nokia 6220 Classic

Nokia decided that the N82 could have some software tweaks, so they released it in a non-Nseries form, which we know as Nokia 6220 Classic.

The 6220 has pretty much the same hardware, the 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, the Xenon flash, QVGA resolution, although a smaller display. The N82 features a 2.4" screen while the 6220 Classic only has a 2.2".

In terms of performance, the 6220 Classic has a Single ARM 11 CPU running at 369MHz while the N82 features a Dual ARM11 CPU running at 332MHz, and it has a 3D Hardware accelerator which is missing from the 6220.

In terms of RAM, both have 128MB, although the N82 has 90MB of executable RAM, 10MB more than it's counterpart.

I was never good with cameras, but I can tell you that the 6220 Classic has a focal length of 4.6 mm while the N82 has a focal length of 5.6mm.
Both devices have video recording at 640x480 at 30fps but I believe we might get better video from the N82 as it has a 3D hardware accelerator.

The 6220 is ready to work in most parts of the world as it features Dual band HSDPA and Quad Band EDGE, against the N82 which is only Tri Band.

In terms of software the 6220 Classic is a clear winner, armed with the latest Symbian OS9.3 on a S60 UI 3rd edition with Feature Pack 2, which is dedicated to email goodies.

The pone seems to be focused on image sharing. "The Nokia 6220 classic will help web 2.0 novices and experienced bloggers snap, save and share pictures and videos easily. Saving, tagging and uploading pictures can now be done on the phone, seconds after the picture has been taken," says John Barry, Director, Connect devices, Nokia. "The Nokia 6220 classic, with its 5 megapixel camera, auto focus and xenon flash is a credible and reasonably priced alternative to single-purpose digital cameras and has the added benefit of A-GPS for location tagging, Nokia Maps and possibility to upgrade to full navigation."

Nokia N96 release date

My friend Devin Ballentina has posted what he thinks is the release date for the Nokia N96 smartphone. He believes that the date marketed over Mobile City, 7th May, is the realistic one.

The truth is that Nokia doesn’t have to hide it anymore, as the product is official. Unfortunately there is no official price tag or network deals on it, or even leaks on networks for that matter. The price on the website seems to be a bit higher than the one given to the Nokia N95 on it’s release, currently it’s set to $799, and that’s with a $100 discount.

The only price we have from Nokia is without taxes or subsidies, which is $550, relatively cheap compared to the one at Mobile City, but this price is only set for a release in Q3, which is quite late if Nokia wants to throw out the competition.

Nokia N96 and N78 Full Specifications!

Yay they are finally here, unfortunately I can't tell the CPU the N96 uses, but now we have confirmation that both phones use the normal charging, and not through microUSB.
We can also see that the N78 uses the same CPU as the N81, at the same speed.

The Nokia N96 is a GSM/WCDMA dual mode portable multimedia computer supporting EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 900/2100 HSDPA, WLAN and DVB-H Video. Use the Nokia N96 for connecting to mobile Broadband using WLAN or HSDPA (3.5G) with faster downloading than 3G. Find directions and locations with the integrated A-GPS and included maps. Use the Nokia N96 to take photos with a 5.0 megapixel auto focus camera. Enjoy videos, music and graphics on the 2.8” QVGA (240 x 320 pixels), 16M color display. Listen to music with using the built-in stereo speakers. Additional features include UPnP, Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR and USB 2.0 High-Speed.

N96 LED flash demonstration

This is one piece of hardware that was long discussed and really criticized, so someone was clever enough to actually test the LED and show its power...or lack of it.

The Nokia N96 features a Dual LED flash instead of the loved Xenon. The excuse that Nokia Product Managers presented is that Xenon lights can only be activate for a second, where the LEDs can be active during the whole of the video capture session. Last night I saw a Mercedes, and it came to my mind that some cars use Xenon headlights, which are lit for long periods of time, so why couldn't this technology be incorporated in phones?

Enjoy the video...
